In India we have a serious problem of waste disposal and management system at a household level.India faces major environmental challenges associated with waste generation and inadequate waste collection, transport, treatment and disposal and the absence of waste segregation practices, recycling has remained to be an informal sector working on outdated technology.
Aim of the project
-
To create awareness towards waste management and segregation.
-
To change the behavior patterns and identify opportunities to solve the problem of waste disposal and processing
Research Areas
Research areas include understanding of the topic and its related fields in respect to India, surveys with different users who are involved in overall process of waste management and understanding the Psychology of the person, where is all the waste coming from and landing into landfills thier problems which they face, understand how system works.
Key Stats India
Target Audience
Once completed the secondary research, to validate the research and its findings we moved on to the user research and identified our target audience.
Did primary research using surveys and interviews to know more about user needs and preferences. We conducted an online surveys circulated via WhatsApp, Gmail and other social media platform and we received 51 responses.
Took Interview of 3 Households and 2 waste collectors and sanitary workers
Brainstorming
This is a detailed mind map which talks about people don't follow waste segregation, understanding the psychology covering 5W1H what, who, where, when, how and why. This was created with the help of observation and talking
Solutions Defined
As the root causes of the problem appear to be a deficiency in public education, a lack of widespread awareness, and insufficient motivation for individuals to take initiative in waste segregation and support waste management for a better future. the existing government measures, while commendable, may benefit from a more robust and widespread implementation to ensure a broader impact.
There are many solutions proposed to enhance waste segregation efforts and change behaviour of people at a small scale, big scale to bring change
Solution 1
This solution is defined at a very personal level to make change at a very small scales to make big impact in a longer run.
A System Plan
Creating the buzz:
Putting posters and raising a communication. To encourage and celebrate success of people who are doing good work and segregating waste.
Raising awareness:
To start conversation in a community, we started organising games, quizes and workshops related to ecosystem knowledge and waste management in which all kids from age group 10 plus years and adults can play in.
Kids are likely to learn and adapt at a faster rate so if they are taught at a young age they even can influence thier parents to bring this change.
We organise two games , Treasure hunt for Kids and Housies for adults as a medium to engage them into conversations
Intoduction of products:
Introduced simple interventions to promote change in behavior while segregating. Each product was designed keeping in mind the stage of waste segregation in the community
Perforated Bags
Perforated bags made sure that the user only put dry waste in the bag, if not it would result in leaking of the dustbin. It helps trigger a forced change in behavior to develop the habit of segregation.
Intuitive Dustbin
Dustbins that are covered with jute bags, used to help out in disposing of wet waste. The clear distinction can be made on how it looks as it looks organic so all the organic waste can go inside it.
moreover it can help a normal bucket or anything to convert it into a dustbin

Campaign Design
Concept 1
In this campaign we are calling the citizens to take control of the very source of concern and transform it into a resource that improves their quality of life, and reignites pride for thier own city
Source To Resource
It is a tap into the pulse of the city by including people, famous landmarks, famous cafes, small scale industry owners, children from the city as part of our communication. We celebrate their source of happiness and their examples to teach and educate the importance of waste segregation
Concept 2
Segregate your waste in showing different products in one poster to take a sense of responsibility
Segregate Your Waste
In this set of posters represent the three main recyclable materials Plastic, Glass and Paper. Each poster has one material standing out that isn’t supposed to be in the recycling pile, showing its out of place
